وَقَالَ أَبُو يَعْلَى : حَدَّثَنَا الْعَبَّاسُ بْنُ الْوَلِيدِ ، حَدَّثَنَا وُهَيْبٌ ، عَنْ هِشَامٍ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ - رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهَا - قَالَتْ : دَخَلْتُ عَلَى أَبِي بَكْرٍ - رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ - فَرَأَيْتُ بِهِ الْمَوْتَ ، فَقُلْتُ : هَيْجٌ ، هَيْجٌ :
مَنْ لَا يَزَالُ دَمْعُهُ مُصَنَّعًا فَإِنَّهُ فِي مَرَّةٍ مَدْفُوقُ فَقَالَ - رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ - : لَا تَقُولِي ذَلِكَ ، وَلَكِنْ قُولِي : وَجَاءَتْ سَكْرَةُ الْمَوْتِ بِالْحَقِّ ذَلِكَ مَا كُنْتَ مِنْهُ تَحِيدُ .
مَنْ لَا يَزَالُ دَمْعُهُ مُصَنَّعًا فَإِنَّهُ فِي مَرَّةٍ مَدْفُوقُ فَقَالَ - رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ - : لَا تَقُولِي ذَلِكَ ، وَلَكِنْ قُولِي : وَجَاءَتْ سَكْرَةُ الْمَوْتِ بِالْحَقِّ ذَلِكَ مَا كُنْتَ مِنْهُ تَحِيدُ .
It is narrated from Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) that she said: "I came to Sayyiduna Abu Bakr al-Siddiq (may Allah be pleased with him) and saw upon him the signs of the death throes and the severity of death, so I recited (in a pained tone) this verse of poetry: 'Alas! Ah, the grief! The one whose tears always remain held back (out of patience and restraint), they will at last, at one time, surely pour out.' Upon this Sayyiduna Abu Bakr al-Siddiq (may Allah be pleased with him) said: 'Do not say that; rather, recite this (Qur'anic verse): "And the stupor of death will come in truth; that is what you were trying to avoid" [Surah Qaf: 19].'"
