Al-Matalib al-'Aliyah 559 — Encouragement of two prostrations

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that he said: "If you are able not to pray any prayer without performing two prostrations after it, then be sure to do so."
This chain is sahih (authentic). It seems that "two prostrations" here means two rak'ahs, and "prayer" means the obligatory prayer. It is also possible that he meant the prostration of forgetfulness (sujud al-sahw) as a precaution, even if the worshipper has made no slip, so that if some forgetfulness occurred unknowingly it would be made up for. And Allah knows best.
(24) And, if Allah Almighty wills, there will come shortly in "The Book of Forgetfulness (Kitab al-Sahw)" a narration from the well-known Successor Abdullah bin Shaqiq (may Allah have mercy on him) that supports this view.
