وَحَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْوَارِثِ ، ثَنَا حَنْظَلَةُ السَّدُوسِيُّ ، قَالَ : قُلْتُ لِعِكْرِمَةَ : إِنِّي رُبَّمَا قَرَأْتُ فِي الْمَغْرِبِ : قُلْ أَعُوذُ بِرَبِّ الْفَلَقِ ، قُلْ أَعُوذُ بِرَبِّ النَّاسِ ، وَإِنَّ نَاسًا يَعْتِبُونَ عَلَيَّ !؟ قَالَ : سُبْحَانَ اللهِ ! اقْرَأْ بِهِمَا ، فَإِنَّهُمَا مِنَ الْقُرْآنِ .
Hanzalah al-Sadusi said: I said to Ikrimah (may Allah have mercy on him): "Sometimes I recite 'Say: I seek refuge in the Lord of the daybreak' [Surah al-Falaq: 1] and 'Say: I seek refuge in the Lord of mankind' [Surah al-Nas: 1] in the Maghrib prayer, but some people blame me for it?" He said (expressing surprise): "'Subhan Allah' (Glory be to Allah)! Do recite these two surahs, for indeed both of them are part of the Qur'an."
