It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The Sirat is like the edge of a sword (in its sharpness and thinness). It is a place where feet stumble and it is extremely slippery, and it has thorns and iron hooks (that snatch the flesh)."
Imam Ahmad bin Mani' narrated this hadith in his Musnad. Its chain contains Abu Ma'shar Najih bin Abd al-Rahman al-Sindi, who is a da'if (weak) narrator; however, other authentic hadith in the two Sahihs (Bukhari and Muslim) fully support its meaning.
