وَقَالَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ : حَدَّثَنَا حُسَيْنُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ ، عَنْ زَائِدَةَ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الْمَلِكِ بْنِ عُمَيْرٍ ، عَنْ رِبْعِيِّ بْنِ حِرَاشٍ ، قَالَ : قَالَ عُقْبَةُ بْنُ عَمْرٍو لِحُذَيْفَةَ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُمَا : أَلَا تُحَدِّثُنَا بِمَا سَمِعْتَ مِنْ رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ؟ قَالَ : بَلَى ، سَمِعْتُهُ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، يَقُولُ : إِنَّ مَعَ الدَّجَّالِ إِذَا خَرَجَ مَاءً وَنَارًا ، فَأَمَّا الَّذِي يَرَى النَّاسُ أَنَّهُ مَاءٌ ، فَنَارٌ تُحْرِقُ ، وَأَمَّا الَّذِي يَرَى النَّاسُ أَنَّهُ نَارٌ ، فَإِنَّهُ مَاءٌ بَارِدٌ ، فَمَنْ أَدْرَكَ ذَلِكَ مِنْكُمْ فَلْيَقَعْ فِي الَّذِي يَرَى أَنَّهُ نَارٌ ، فَإِنَّهُ مَاءٌ بَارِدٌ ، فَقَالَ عُقْبَةُ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ : وَأَنَا سَمِعْتُهُ يَقُولُ ذَلِكَ .
قُلْتُ : حَدِيثُ حُذَيْفَةَ عِنْدَهُمْ .

It is narrated from Rib'i bin Hirash (may Allah have mercy on him) that Sayyiduna Uqbah bin Amr (may Allah be pleased with him) asked Sayyiduna Hudhayfah bin al-Yaman (may Allah be pleased with him): Will you not narrate to us the hadith that you heard from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)? He replied: Why not! I heard him (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "When the Dajjal appears, he will have with him water and fire (both). What the people see as water will in reality be burning fire, and what the people take to be fire will actually be cold, sweet water. So whoever of you lives to see that time and faces this situation should plunge into what he sees as fire, for it will in fact be cold water." At this Sayyiduna Uqbah (may Allah be pleased with him) said (confirming it): I too heard it from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) exactly like this.
I (Ibn Hajar) say: This hadith of Sayyiduna Hudhayfah (may Allah be pleased with him) is also found with them (the other hadith compilers).
