وَقَالَ مُسَدَّدٌ : حَدَّثَنَا عَوْنُ بْنُ مُوسَى ، عَنْ هِلَالِ بْنِ خَبَّابٍ قَالَ : سَأَلْتُ سَعِيدًا رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ : مَا عَلَامَةُ هَلَكَةِ النَّاسِ ؟ قَالَ : إِذَا هَلَكَ عُلَمَاؤُهُمْ .
It is narrated from Hilal bin Khabbab (may Allah have mercy on him) that he said: I asked Imam Sa'id bin Jubayr (may Allah have mercy on him): "What is the sign of the ruin and destruction of the people?" He replied: "When their scholars pass away (that is, when knowledge is taken away)."
Imam Musaddad bin Musarhad narrated this report (athar) in his Musnad, and its chain is of the hasan (good) grade.
