It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Indeed, everything has a rise and a decline, and indeed this religion too has a rise and a decline. The period of this religion's rise is that with which Allah Almighty has sent me, until a whole tribe, down to its last member, will gain understanding of the religion, so that none will remain among them except one or two sinners, and those two will also be overpowered, crushed and humiliated; if they speak or open their mouths, they will be suppressed, overpowered and persecuted. Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) mentioned the decline of this religion, saying: The whole tribe, down to its last member, will become ignorant and coarse, until none will remain among them except one or two men of understanding (faqih) in the religion, and those two will be overpowered, crushed and humiliated; if they speak or open their mouths, they will be suppressed, overpowered and persecuted, and it will be said to them: 'Are you rebelling against us?' Until wine will be drunk openly in their gatherings, assemblies and markets, and wine will be given another name and declared lawful, until the last people of this Ummah will curse its first people, except that the curse will then fall (for doing so) upon him who does it. And they will say: 'There is no harm in this drink.' A man among them will drink of it as much as he likes and then stop. Until matters will reach the point that when a woman passes by, that wicked man will get up towards her, lift her garment and commit fornication with her in public while the people watch, just as the tail of a ewe is lifted (the narrator said that at that moment he, peace and blessings be upon him, lifted a wrapper of his made of Suhuli cloth to show it). Then one of them, who would be considered most pious, will say: 'If only you had taken her aside from the road into some cover.' The one who says this will be as respected and high-ranking among them as Abu Bakr and Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) are among you. So whoever reaches that time and enjoins good and forbids evil will have the reward of fifty of my Companions who believed in me and affirmed my truth."
