قَالَ أَبُو يَعْلَى : حَدَّثَنَا جَعْفَرُ بْنُ حُمَيْدٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا عُبَيْدُ اللهِ بْنُ إِيَادٍ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنْ قَيْسِ بْنِ النُّعْمَانِ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ ، قَالَ : خَرَجَتْ خَيْلٌ لِرَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَسَمِعَ بِهَا أُكَيْدِرُ دُومَةِ الْجَنْدَلِ ، فَانْطَلَقَ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَالَ : يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ ، بَلَغَنِي أَنَّ خَيْلَكَ انْطَلَقَتْ ، وَإِنِّي خِفْتُ عَلَى أَرْضِي وَمَالِي ، فَاكْتُبْ لِي كِتَابًا لَا يُتَعَرَّضُ لِشَيْءٍ هُوَ لِي ، فَإِنِّي مُقِرٌّ بِالَّذِي عَلَيَّ مِنَ الْحَقِّ ، فَكَتَبَ لَهُ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Qays bin al-Nu'man (may Allah be pleased with him) that some horsemen of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) set out. News of this reached Ukaydir, the ruler of Dumat al-Jandal, so he came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: "O Messenger of Allah! I have been informed that your horsemen have set out, and I have become fearful for my land and my wealth. So write a written decree for me so that none of my property is interfered with. I certainly acknowledge the due that is obligatory upon me." So the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) had that document written for him.
The chain of this hadith is hasan (good). Abu Ya'la recorded it in his Musnad (4317); its narrators are thiqat (trustworthy) except Ubaydullah bin Iyad, who is saduq (truthful).
