It is narrated from a man of the Ansar that he said: We kept the company of Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him), and he said that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Leave my in-laws and my Companions alone (do not revile or harm them), for whoever honours my regard in their matter will have with him a protector (guardian) from Allah Almighty; and whoever does not honour my regard concerning them, Allah, Glorified and Exalted, will abandon him; and whomever Allah Almighty abandons, He is about to seize him."
Imam Ahmad bin Mani' recorded this hadith in his Musnad. The narrator in its chain, Fudayl bin Marzuq, was included by Imam Muslim in his Sahih and declared thiqah (trustworthy) by Ibn Hibban, while others have criticised his memory; moreover, the name of the Ansari narrator in the chain is not given.
