Al-Matalib al-'Aliyah 4138 — The virtue of the Ansar

قَالَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ : ثَنَا عِيسَى ، عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي لَيْلَى ، عَنْ أَبِي الزُّبَيْرِ ، عَنْ جَابِرٍ قَالَ : لَقَدْ لَبِثْنَا فِي الْمَدِينَةِ سَنَتَيْنِ قَبْلَ أَنْ يَقْدَمَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَلَيْنَا نَعْمُرُ الْمَسَاجِدَ وَنُقِيمُ الصَّلَاةَ .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: "We stayed in Madinah for two years before the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) came to us in Madinah; (during this time) we kept the mosques populated and established prayer."
