Abu Amr bin al-Ala' narrates from his father that Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) once delivered a sermon and said: "O people! By Allah, besides whom there is no true deity, I have not taken an atom's weight of anything, little or much, from your wealth (the public treasury) except this one thing." Then he (may Allah be pleased with him) took out from the sleeve of his shirt a small vial in which there was perfume, and said: "A dihqan (a local chief or landlord) presented this to me as a gift."
Imam Ibn Abi Shaybah narrated it in 'al-Musannaf' (hadith: 3947), and all its narrators are thiqat (trustworthy).
