حَدَّثَنَا حَبِيبٌ ، عَنْ ثَعْلَبَةَ بْنِ يَزِيدَ الْحِمَّانِيِّ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ عَلِيًّا رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ يَقُولُ عَلَى الْمِنْبَرِ : وَاللهِ إِنَّهُ لَعَهْدُ النَّبِيِّ الْأُمِّيِّ : إِنَّ هَذِهِ الْأُمَّةَ سَتَغْدِرُ بِي
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said, while speaking on the minbar: "By Allah! Indeed, this is the covenant of the unlettered Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) with me: that this Ummah will soon act treacherously and disloyally towards me."
Imam Abu Ya'la (535) and Imam al-Bazzar (791) narrated this hadith. The hadith scholars differ over the reliability of the narrator Yazid al-Himmani in its chain and of his son Tha'labah; however, Imam al-Hakim declared it sahih (authentic).
