وَقَالَ أَبُو يَعْلَى : حَدَّثَنَا سُرَيْجٌ ، ثَنَا أَبُو حَفْصٍ الْأَبَّارُ ، عَنْ لَيْثِ ابْنِ أَبِي سُلَيْمٍ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ سَابِطٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي أُمَامَةَ - رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ - ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : جَاءَنِي رَبِّي فِي أَحْسَنِ صُورَةٍ ، فَقَالَ : يَا مُحَمَّدُ ، قُلْتُ : لَبَّيْكَ رَبِّي وَسَعْدَيْكَ قَالَ : هَلْ تَدْرِي فِيمَ يَخْتَصِمُ الْمَلَأُ الْأَعْلَى ؟ قُلْتُ : لَا أَدْرِي ، قَالَ : فَوَضَعَ يَدَهُ عَلَى صَدْرِي ، فَوَجَدْتُ بَرْدَهَا بَيْنَ كَتِفَيَّ - قَالَ : فَوَضَعَ يَدَهُ بَيْنَ كَتِفَيَّ ، فَوَجَدْتُ بَرْدَهَا فِي صَدْرِي - فَقَالَ : يَا مُحَمَّدُ ، قُلْتُ : لَبَّيْكَ وَسَعْدَيْكَ قَالَ : هَلْ تَدْرِي فِيمَ يَخْتَصِمُ الْمَلَأُ الْأَعْلَى ؟ قُلْتُ : فِي الدَّرَجَاتِ وَالْكَفَّارَاتِ ، أَمَّا الدَّرَجَاتُ فَإِسْبَاغُ الْوُضُوءِ فِي الْمَكْرُوهَاتِ ، وَنَقْلُ الْأَقْدَامِ إِلَى الْجَمَاعَاتِ ، وَانْتِظَارُ الصَّلَاةِ بَعْدَ الصَّلَاةِ ، وَأَمَّا الْكَفَّارَاتُ : فَإِطْعَامُ الطَّعَامِ ، وَإِفْشَاءُ السَّلَامِ ، وَالصَّلَاةُ بِاللَّيْلِ وَالنَّاسُ نِيَامٌ ، فَمَنْ فَعَلَ ذَلِكَ عَاشَ بِخَيْرٍ ، وَكَانَ مِنْ ذُنُوبِهِ كَيَوْمِ وَلَدَتْهُ أُمُّهُ ، وَقَالَ لِي : يَا مُحَمَّدُ ، قُلِ : اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ عَمَلَ الْحَسَنَاتِ ، وَتَرْكَ السَّيِّئَاتِ ، وَحُبَّ الْمَسَاكِينِ ، وَإِذَا أَرَدْتَ بِقَوْمٍ فِتْنَةً وَأَنَا بَيْنَهُمْ فَتَوَفَّنِي إِلَيْكَ غَيْرَ مَفْتُونٍ .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The manifestation of my Lord came to me in the most beautiful form, and Allah Almighty said: O Muhammad! I said: O my Lord! Here I am, ever ready to obey You. Allah Almighty asked: Do you know what the Highest Assembly (the angels brought near) are disputing about? I said: I do not know. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Then Allah Almighty placed His Hand upon my chest, and I felt its coolness between my shoulders, or he said: He placed His Hand between my shoulders, and I felt its coolness in my chest. Then Allah Almighty said again: O Muhammad! I said: O my Lord! Here I am, present and ready. Allah Almighty asked again: Do you know what the Highest Assembly are disputing about? I said: They are disputing about the raising of ranks and the deeds that wipe out sins (expiations). As for the ranks, they are: performing ablution thoroughly and well even in disliked and difficult conditions, walking on foot to the congregational prayer, and waiting for the next prayer after a prayer. And the expiations (deeds that become an expiation for sins) are: feeding people, spreading the greeting of peace, and praying at night when people are asleep. So whoever does these deeds will live in goodness and will be as pure of his sins as on the day his mother gave birth to him. And Allah Almighty said to me: O Muhammad! Say: 'Allahumma inni as'aluka amal al-hasanat, wa tark al-sayyi'at, wa hubb al-masakin, wa idha aradta bi-qawmin fitnatan wa ana baynahum fa-tawaffani ilayka ghayra maftun' (O Allah, I ask You for the doing of good deeds, the leaving of evil deeds and the love of the poor; and when You intend to put a people to trial while I am among them, then take me to You without being put to trial)."
