وَقَالَ مُسَدَّدٌ : حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى ، عَنِ الْأَعْمَشِ ، عَنْ زَيْدِ بْنِ وَهْبٍ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ حُذَيْفَةَ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ ، يَقُولُ : مَاتَ رَجُلٌ مِنَ الْمُنَافِقِينَ فَلَمْ أُصَلِّ عَلَيْهِ ، فَقَالَ عُمَرُ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ : مَا مَنَعَكَ أَنْ تُصَلِّيَ عَلَيْهِ ؟ قُلْتُ : إِنَّهُ مِنْهُمْ ، فَقَالَ : أَبِاللهِ مِنْهُمْ أَنَا ؟ قُلْتُ : لَا ، قَالَ : ( فَبَكَى ) .
إِسْنَادُهُ صَحِيحٌ ، وَقَدِ اسْتَنْكَرَهُ يَعْقُوبُ بْنُ سُفْيَانَ مِنْ حَدِيثِ زَيْدِ بْنِ وَهْبٍ .

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Hudhayfah bin al-Yaman (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: A man from the hypocrites died and I did not pray the funeral prayer over him. At this, Sayyiduna Umar bin al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) asked me: "What prevented you from praying the funeral prayer over him?" I replied: "He was one of them (the hypocrites)." Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) asked (with great concern): "By Allah! Am I also one of them (the hypocrites)?" I said: "No." On hearing this, he wept.
Its chain is sahih (authentic); however, Ya'qub bin Sufyan regarded it as munkar (objectionable) as a narration of Zayd bin Wahb.
