It is narrated from Abu Salamah (may Allah have mercy on him) that Sayyiduna Usayd bin Hudayr (may Allah be pleased with him) was praying one night, and he said: "Suddenly something like a cloud overshadowed me, in which there were lights like lamps. At that time my wife was sleeping by my side and she was expecting a child, while a horse was tied in the courtyard of the house. I feared that the horse might bolt and my wife be frightened and miscarry, so I ended my prayer. When morning came I mentioned this to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: 'O Usayd! You should have kept reciting; that was an angel listening to the recitation of the Noble Qur'an.'"
I (Ibn Hajar) say: Al-Bukhari recorded it in mu'allaq form (ta'liqan), while Muslim and Ahmad recorded it from the hadith of Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him), and al-Nasa'i reported it in his book al-Sunan al-Kubra in the Musnad of Sayyiduna Usayd bin Hudayr (may Allah be pleased with him).
