It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that he said: One day we were present with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Truly, the likeness of the believer is like a tree of which not even a single leaf (or a fingertip's worth) falls. Do you know which tree it is?" The Companions (may Allah be pleased with them) said: "No." He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "It is the date palm, none of whose leaves fall; and likewise not a single supplication of the believer ever goes to waste."
Imam al-Harith bin Abi Usamah recorded this hadith in his Musnad (Bughyat al-Bahith: 3341), and the basis of the likeness of the believer to the date palm is found in Sahih al-Bukhari and Sahih Muslim.
