Al-Matalib al-'Aliyah 3207 — Dislike of decking houses with curtains

It is narrated from Muhammad bin Ka'b that Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Yazid (may Allah be pleased with him) was invited to a meal. When he arrived, he saw that the house had been decorated (with costly cloths and curtains), so he sat down outside and began to weep. He was asked: "What has made you weep?" He said: When the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) saw off an army and they reached the place called Thaniyyat al-Wada' ('Aqabat al-Wada'), the Prophet of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) would make this supplication: "Astawdi'ullaha dinakum wa amanatakum wa khawatima a'malikum" (I entrust to Allah your religion, your trustworthiness and the final outcomes of your deeds). Then (Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Yazid (may Allah be pleased with him) related) that one day he (peace and blessings be upon him) saw a man who had patched his cloak with a piece of fur, so he (peace and blessings be upon him) turned towards the place of sunrise and gestured with his hands like this (and Hammad demonstrated it by spreading out the palms of both his hands), and said: "The world has risen upon you (that is, it has turned fully towards you), until we thought it would fall upon us; and (a time will come when) one of you will go out in the morning wearing one garment and in the evening wear another, and you will hang curtains on your houses (covering their walls) just as the Ka'bah is covered." Then Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Yazid (may Allah be pleased with him) said (seeing the present situation): "How should I not weep, when I have seen you covering your houses (with curtains) just as the Ka'bah is covered?"
I (Ibn Hajar) say: Imam Abu Dawud and Imam al-Nasa'i recorded only the story of the words said at the time of farewell, and the chains of both are hasan (good).
