It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "This Ummah will act upon the Book of Allah, the Mighty and Majestic (the Qur'an), for a long while; then for a period it will act according to the blessed Sunnah of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him); then it will begin to act upon opinion and personal ideas. So when these people begin to act upon their opinion and analogy, they will surely stray from the right path themselves and lead others into misguidance as well."
Abu Ya'la recorded this hadith in his Musnad; however, the narrator in its chain, Uthman bin Abd al-Rahman al-Zuhri, has been declared da'if (weak) by the imams of narrator criticism.
