أَخْبَرَنَا إِسْحَاقُ : أَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ ، ثَنَا مَعْمَرٌ ، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ ، أَنَّ حَفْصَةَ ، جَاءَتْ بِكِتَابٍ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مِنْ قَصَصِ يُوسُفَ ، فَجَعَلَتْ تَقْرَأُهُ ، وَالنَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَتَلَوَّنُ وَجْهُهُ ، وَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : وَالَّذِي نَفْسِي بِيَدِهِ ، لَوْ أَنْ أَتَاكُمْ يُوسُفُ فَاتَّبَعْتُمُوهُ وَتَرَكْتُمُونِي لَضَلَلْتُمْ .
It is narrated from Imam al-Zuhri (may Allah have mercy on him) that Sayyidah Hafsah (may Allah be pleased with her) came into the noble presence of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) with a book (a writing) containing the stories and accounts of Sayyiduna Yusuf (peace be upon him), and began to read it out. (Meanwhile) the colour of the blessed face of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) began to change, and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: 'Walladhi nafsi biyadih' "By the One in whose hand is my soul! If Yusuf (peace be upon him) himself were to come to you and you followed him and left me, you would surely go astray from the right path."
