It is narrated from Mansur bin al-Mu'tamir that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Indeed Iblis lies in wait for the son of Adam on all his (righteous) paths. First he sits as an obstacle for him on the path of accepting Islam, and whispering to him, says: 'Will you accept Islam and abandon the religion (of your forefathers), your family, your children and your birthplace?' But this servant disobeys Satan and accepts Islam. Then Satan sits as an obstacle for him on the path of emigration (hijrah), and says: 'Are you going to emigrate? Yet the likeness of emigration is that of a horse tied with a long tether, which cannot go anywhere (of its own will).' He again disobeys Satan and emigrates. Then Satan sits for him on the path of jihad and tries to frighten him: 'Will you fight in jihad? Yet jihad, just like its name, is sheer hardship and trial; life and wealth are consumed in it. You will fight and be killed, then someone else will marry your widow, and your wealth will be divided (as inheritance).' This servant again disobeys him and fights in jihad in the path of Allah." Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "So whoever has these qualities (faith, emigration and jihad), it is a right (a guarantee) upon Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, that if he dies a natural death, or is killed on the battlefield, or drowns in water, or burns to death in fire, Allah Almighty will most certainly admit him into Paradise."
This report is mursal or mu'dal (with one or more narrators missing from the chain).
