قَالَ أَبُو يَعْلَى وَالْبَزَّارُ جَمِيعًا : حَدَّثَنَا هُدْبَةُ بْنُ خَالِدٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا سُهَيْلُ بْنُ أَبِي حَزْمٍ ، عَنْ ثَابِتٍ ، عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : مَنْ وَعَدَهُ اللهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ عَلَى عَمَلٍ ثَوَابًا فَهُوَ مُنْجِزُهُ لَهُ ، وَمَنْ وَعَدَهُ عَلَى عَمَلٍ عِقَابًا فَهُوَ فِيهِ بِالْخِيَارِ .
قَالَ الْبَزَّارُ : سُهَيْلٌ لَا يُتَابَعُ عَلَى حَدِيثِهِ .

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, has promised a reward for a (good) deed, Allah Almighty will certainly fulfil that promise for him; and whoever Allah Almighty has threatened with punishment for a (bad) deed, Allah Almighty has full choice concerning him (to forgive him by His grace if He wills, or to punish him by His justice if He wills)."
