وَقَالَ أَبُو يَعْلَى : حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ خَالِدٍ الْقُرَشِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا عَتَّابُ بْنُ بَشِيرٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي الْوَاصِلِ عَبْدِ الْحَمِيدِ بْنِ وَاصِلٍ ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ : كَانَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ فِي دُعَائِهِ : يَا وَلِيَّ الْإِسْلَامِ وَأَهْلِهِ ، سَكِّنِّي بِهِ حَتَّى أَلْقَاكَ بِهِ .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to say these words in his supplication: 'Ya waliyy al-islami wa ahlih, sakkinni bihi hatta alqaka bih' (O Guardian and Protector of Islam and its people! Keep me steadfast and at peace upon it (the religion of Islam) until I meet You in that very state).
Abu Ya'la narrated it; the narrator in its chain, Attab bin Bashir, is saduq (truthful), but the hadith scholars have criticised his memory; however, these words of supplication are well known on the basis of other supporting reports.
