It is narrated from Imam al-Hasan al-Basri (may Allah have mercy on him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "It is necessary for you that none of you hasten (to pass final judgement) about anyone else until you see what his deeds are sealed with." And Imam al-Hasan (may Allah have mercy on him) used to supplicate: 'Allahumma ij'al ahsana a'malina khawatimaha, waj'al thawabaha al-jannah' (O Allah, make the best of our deeds our final deeds, and make their reward Paradise). He further said that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to supplicate thus: 'Allahumma ij'al khayra a'malina ma yali ajalana, waj'al khayra ayyamina yawma liqa'ik' (O Allah, make the best of our deeds those that come near the end of our lives, and make the best of all our days the day we meet You).
Imam al-Harith bin Abi Usamah recorded this hadith in his Musnad (Bughyat al-Bahith: 2942).
