حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْعَزِيزِ بْنُ أَبَانَ ، حَدَّثَنَا السَّرِيُّ بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيلَ ، حَدَّثَنَا قَيْسُ بْنُ أَبِي حَازِمٍ قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ أَبَا بَكْرٍ الصِّدِّيقَ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ يَقُولُ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : كُفْرٌ بِاللهِ مَنْ نُسِبَ إِلَى نَسَبٍ لَا يُعْرَفُ ، وَكُفْرٌ بِاللهِ تَبَرُّؤٌ مِنْ نَسَبٍ وَإِنْ دَقَّ .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Bakr al-Siddiq (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "It is (adopting the way of) disbelief in Allah Almighty for a person to attribute himself to a lineage (family) that is not (truly) known to be his; and it is disbelief in Allah Almighty to disown and disavow one's (real) lineage, however slight and obscure it may be."
