It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that when the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) returned from the Battle of Uhud, he (peace and blessings be upon him) heard people saying: "So-and-so was braver than so-and-so, so-and-so was bolder and more daring than so-and-so, and so-and-so performed feats that no one else could." In short, they were praising them with much exaggeration. So the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "You have no knowledge of the reality of this matter." The Companions said: O Messenger of Allah! How is that? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "All of them fought in the measure in which Allah Almighty had apportioned intellect and wisdom among them, and the standard of their support and their intentions too was according to their intellects. So whoever of them was martyred or wounded attained his own separate rank, and when the Day of Resurrection comes, they will obtain their ranks and stations in proportion to their intentions and their intellects."
The chain of this hadith contains the narrator Abbad bin Kathir al-Basri, who according to the hadith scholars is matruk (abandoned) and extremely weak; therefore this report is weak in its chain.
