It is narrated from Aslam that Sayyiduna Umar bin al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) asked Sayyiduna Tamim al-Dari (may Allah be pleased with him): "In your view, what is the standard of leadership, chieftainship, greatness and nobility?" He replied: "Intellect and wisdom." At this Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "You have spoken the truth. I asked the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) just as I asked you, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) gave the same answer that you have given. Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) further said: 'I asked Jibril (peace be upon him): What is the real standard of leadership and eminence among people? And he replied: The intellect.'"
The chain of this hadith contains a narrator named Abbad bin Kathir al-Basri, who is matruk (abandoned) and weak, because of which this report is extremely weak in its chain.
