It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Qatadah (may Allah be pleased with him) that I said: O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! What is your view regarding this saying of Allah, the Mighty and Majestic: 'which of you is best in deed' [Surah al-Mulk: 2], what does Allah, Glorified and Exalted, mean by it?
He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Which of you is best in intellect." Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The most complete of you in intellect is the one who fears Allah Almighty the most, and who is the best in insight and understanding regarding Allah's commands and prohibitions, even if he is the least of you in performing voluntary acts of worship."
