It is narrated from a man of the tribe of Khath'am (a Companion, may Allah be pleased with him), who said: I came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) while he (peace and blessings be upon him) was sitting among a group of his Companions. I asked: Are you the one who says that you are the Messenger of Allah? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Yes." I said: O Messenger of Allah, which deed is most beloved to Allah Almighty? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Faith in Allah." I asked: O Messenger of Allah, then which after that? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Then maintaining ties with relatives (silat al-rahim)." I said: O Messenger of Allah, which deed is most disliked and hateful to Allah Almighty? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Associating partners with Allah." I asked: O Messenger of Allah, then which after that? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Breaking ties of kinship and severing relations." I asked: O Messenger of Allah, then which deed after that is most hateful? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Commanding evil and forbidding good (righteous deeds)."
