وَقَالَ أَبُو يَعْلَى : حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ بَكَّارٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ أَبِي الزِّنَادِ ، عَنْ عَلْقَمَةَ بْنِ أَبِي عَلْقَمَةَ ، عَنْ أُمِّهِ أُمِّ عَلْقَمَةَ مَوْلَاةِ عَائِشَةَ ، قَالَتْ : أَتَيْتُ عَائِشَةَ بِغُلَامٍ صَبِيٍّ تَدْعُو لَهُ ، فَرَفَعُوا وِسَادَةً كَانَ عَلَيْهَا الصَّبِيُّ ، فَرَأَتْ عَائِشَةُ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهَا تَحْتَهَا مُوسَى ، فَقَالَتْ : مَا هَذِهِ ؟ قَالَ : نَجْعَلُهَا مِنَ الْجِنِّ وَالْفَزَعِ ، قَالَ : فَأَخَذَتْهَا عَائِشَةُ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهَا فَرَمَتْ بِهَا ، وَقَالَتْ : إِنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَانَ يُبْغِضُ الطِّيَرَةَ وَيَكْرَهُهَا .
It is narrated from Umm Alqamah (the freed slave-woman of Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her)) that she brought a little boy to Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) so that she would supplicate for him (for good and blessing). Meanwhile, when the people lifted the pillow on which the child was lying, Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) saw a razor placed under it. She (may Allah be pleased with her) asked: "What is this?" The people answered: (We have placed it here because) we consider it a means of protection from the evil of the jinn and from the child's sudden fright or alarm. The narrator relates that Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) took it and threw it away, and said: "Indeed the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) intensely hated bad omens, superstition and evil augury, and disliked them."
Imam Abu Ya'la recorded it in Musnad Abi Ya'la. Its chain contains the narrator Abd al-Rahman bin Abi al-Zinad, whose memory has been criticised; however, the prohibition of bad omens and superstition is established by authentic hadith.
