Al-Matalib al-'Aliyah 2449 — The remembrance that removes sickness

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him): I went with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) while my hand was in his hand. He (peace and blessings be upon him) came upon a man who was in a very wretched and distressed state, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: "O so-and-so! What has brought you to the state I see?" He said: O Messenger of Allah! Sickness and poverty and hardship. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Shall I not teach you words through the blessing of which Allah Almighty will remove this sickness and hardship from you?" He said: No; I would not be pleased, in exchange for them (that is, the relief gained through those words), to have taken part with you (peace and blessings be upon him) in the battles of Badr and Uhud. The narrator relates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) smiled (on hearing this), then said: "And can the people of Badr and the people of Uhud attain the reward and rank that a patient, contented poor man attains?" Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I said: O Messenger of Allah! Teach me (those words). He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O Abu Hurayrah! Say: 'Tawakkaltu 'ala al-hayy alladhi la yamut' (I have placed my trust in the Ever-Living who will never die), (and recite this verse:) 'All praise is for Allah, who has not taken a son, nor has He a partner in His dominion, nor is He weak so as to need a protector; and glorify Him with great glorification' [Surah al-Isra: 111]." Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Then some time later the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) came to me while my condition had improved, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: "What is this (prosperity)?" I said: O Messenger of Allah! I kept reciting the words that you (peace and blessings be upon him) taught me.
The narrator in the chain of this hadith, Musa bin Ubaydah al-Rabadhi, is weak.
