It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Juhayfah (may Allah be pleased with him) that on the Day of Sacrifice (Yawm al-Nahr) a man slaughtered his sacrifice before the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) had offered the Eid prayer. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said to him: "This sacrifice will not suffice on your behalf (that is, it will not be accepted)." The man said: "O Messenger of Allah! We have a jadha'ah?" (Jadha'ah: an animal that is usually younger than the age required for sacrifice.) He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "It will suffice on your behalf, but it will not suffice for anyone else after you."
Abu Ya'la (Imam Abu Ya'la al-Mawsili) said: Zuhayr narrated to us; Ubaydullah (bin Musa) narrated it to him with the same (chain and text).
