قَالَ أَبُو يَعْلَى : حَدَّثَنَا سُوَيْدُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ ، ثَنَا مُعْتَمِرٌ ، عَنْ حُمَيْدٍ ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ : إِنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَقَامَ بَعْضَ نِسَائِهِ ، وَشَبَرَ مِنْ ذَيْلِهَا شِبْرًا أَوْ شِبْرَيْنِ ، وَقَالَ : لَا تَزِدْنَ عَلَى هَذَا .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: "The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had one of his pure wives stand up and measured a span or two of the hem of her garment, and said: 'Do not lengthen it beyond this.'"
