وَقَالَ الطَّيَالِسِيُّ : حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ ، عَنْ هِشَامِ بْنِ عَمْرٍو ، عَنْ رَجُلٍ ، عَنْ عُمَرَ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ : كُنْتُ عِنْدَ رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَعِنْدَهُ فَيْضٌ مِنَ النَّاسِ ، فَأَتَاهُ رَجُلٌ ، فَقَالَ : يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ ، أَيُّ النَّاسِ خَيْرٌ مَنْزِلَةً عِنْدَ اللهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ بَعْدَ أَنْبِيَائِهِ وَأَصْفِيَائِهِ ؟ فَقَالَ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : الْمُجَاهِدُ فِي سَبِيلِ اللهِ تَعَالَى بِنَفْسِهِ وَمَالِهِ حَتَّى تَأْتِيَهُ دَعْوَةُ اللهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ وَهُوَ عَلَى مَتْنِ فَرَسِهِ آخِذًا بِعِنَانِهِ . قَالَ : ثُمَّ مَنْ ؟ قَالَ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : امْرُؤٌ بِنَاحِيَةٍ أَحْسَنَ عِبَادَةَ رَبِّهِ ، وَتَرَكَ النَّاسَ مِنْ شَرِّهِ .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: I was present in the company of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and a great crowd of people was there. Then a man came to him (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: O Messenger of Allah! After the prophets and the chosen servants of Allah, who is the best of people in rank with Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, on the Day of Resurrection? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The mujahid who remains engaged (in jihad) in the path of Allah Almighty with his life and his wealth until the call of Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, (death) comes to him while he is mounted on the back of his horse, holding its reins." The man said: Then who after him? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "A man in some secluded corner who worships his Lord in the best manner and keeps people safe from his evil."
