It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that when the first Caliph, Sayyiduna Abu Bakr al-Siddiq (may Allah be pleased with him), dispatched Yazid bin Abi Sufyan (may Allah be pleased with him) (with an army) on the campaign to Syria, he walked about two miles on foot to see them off. Meanwhile it was said to him: O Caliph of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! Would it not be better if you returned now? Sayyiduna Abu Bakr al-Siddiq (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Indeed, I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "Whoever's feet become dusty in the path of Allah Almighty, Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, will make them both forbidden to the Fire of Hell."
Imam Ahmad bin Mani' (may Allah have mercy on him) recorded this blessed hadith in his Musnad.
