Al-Matalib al-'Aliyah 1825 — Every intoxicant is unlawful

Imam Ahmad bin Mani' (may Allah have mercy on him) narrated with his chain from Abdullah bin Abi al-Hudhayl that Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) used to swear: "Indeed, the thing which the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade when the prohibition of wine was revealed, and ordered that its jars be broken and their contents poured out, was (the intoxicating drink prepared from) dates and raisins."
