وَقَالَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ : حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ ، ثَنَا فُضَيْلُ بْنُ مَرْزُوقٍ ، عَنْ عَطِيَّةَ ، عَنْ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ ، قَالَ : سَأَلَهُ رَجُلٌ عَنِ الْغُسْلِ مِنَ الْجَنَابَةِ ، فَقَالَ : " ثَلَاثًا " ، فَقَالَ الرَّجُلُ : إِنِّي كَثِيرُ الشَّعَرِ ؟ فَقَالَ : " كَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَكْثَرَ شَعَرًا مِنْكَ وَأَطْيَبَ " .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) that a man asked him about the bath for janabah, and he said: "Three times (pouring water is sufficient)." The man said (in surprise): My hair is very thick? Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "The blessed hair of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was far thicker than yours and supremely pure and fragrant."
Imam Abu Bakr bin Abi Shaybah narrated this hadith; the narrator Atiyyah al-Awfi in its chain is da'if (weak), but the basis of pouring water three times in ghusl is established by other authentic hadith.
