It is narrated from Sayyidah Umm Hakim bint Wada' al-Khuza'iyyah (may Allah be pleased with her): I said to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): Is it disliked to reject someone's kindness or a small gift? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "How ugly and bad this is! If I were given (a goat's) trotters as a gift, I would certainly accept them, and if I were invited to it, I would certainly accept the invitation."
According to the imams and commentators, this hadith teaches that one should not turn down someone's gift or invitation by regarding it as worthless, because the real aim is the winning of hearts and the strengthening of mutual ties, even if the thing seems insignificant.
