Imam Abu Ya'la narrated through Ibrahim bin al-Hajjaj, Sukayn bin Abd al-Aziz and Abd al-Mu'min that Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Gold for gold, silver for silver, wheat for wheat, barley for barley, salt for salt and dates for dates, (the exchange) must be like for like and equal in measure. So whoever gives more (in quantity) or demands more has certainly committed usury (riba)."
