Al-Matalib al-'Aliyah 1220 — Crowding to kiss the Black Stone

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that he would push forward through the crowd to reach the Black Stone, and when the people saw him they would make way for him out of respect and widen the space for him.
Imam Nafi' (may Allah have mercy on him) relates: Once I too was caught in this severe crowding of the people. A man struck me with his elbow from behind, the pressure of which made the man in front of me fall, and I too fell backwards. At that moment I began to fear that I would not return safely, but that this crowd would crush me to death. Yet despite all this, Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) insisted on pressing forward to reach the Black Stone.
