Abu al-Tufayl narrates: Sayyiduna Imam Hasan bin Ali bin Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with them both) addressed us; he praised and extolled Allah Almighty, and he mentioned the Commander of the Faithful, Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him), saying that he was the seal of the executors (awsiya'), the executor of the prophets, and the trustee of the truthful and the martyrs. Then he said: "O people, a man has parted from you whom those before could not surpass and those after cannot reach. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to give him the banner, and Jibril would fight on his right and Mika'il on his left, and he would not return until Allah Almighty granted him victory. Allah Almighty took his soul on the night on which He took the soul of the executor of Sayyiduna Musa (peace be upon him), and his soul was taken up on the night on which the soul of Sayyiduna Isa bin Maryam (peace be upon him) was taken up, and on the night in which Allah Almighty sent down the Furqan. By Allah! He did not leave behind any gold or silver; in his house there were only seven hundred and fifty dirhams, left over from his stipend, with which he intended to buy a servant for Umm Kulthum." Then Imam Hasan (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "Whoever knows me knows me, and whoever does not know me, I am Hasan, the grandson of Sayyiduna Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him)." Then he recited this verse, which is the saying of Sayyiduna Yusuf (peace be upon him): "And I have followed the way of my forefathers, Ibrahim, Ishaq and Ya'qub." Then Sayyiduna Imam Hasan (may Allah be pleased with him) began to use the words of the Book of Allah: "I am the son of the bearer of glad tidings; I am the son of the warner; I am the son of the Prophet; I am the son of the one who called to Allah by His permission; I am the son of the illuminating lamp; I am the son of the one who was sent as a mercy to all the worlds; I am of the household from whom Allah Almighty removed impurity and whom He purified thoroughly; I am of the household whose love and friendship Allah Almighty has made obligatory. In what He sent down to Sayyiduna Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), He said: 'Say: I do not ask you for any recompense for this, except love for kinship.'"

In one narration the words are: "On that same night Sayyiduna Yusha' bin Nun (peace be upon him), the companion of Sayyiduna Musa (peace be upon him), was martyred."
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat, and in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir in abridged form; however, he narrated these words: "the twenty-seventh night of Ramadan."
Abu Ya'la also recorded it in abridged form, and al-Bazzar recorded something similar; however, he narrated these words: "The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would give him the banner; when battle broke out, Sayyiduna Jibril (peace be upon him) would fight on his right," and in it he narrated these words: "It was the twenty-first night of Ramadan" (when Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) was martyred).
Ahmad recorded it in a greatly abridged form. The chain of Ahmad, some of the routes of al-Bazzar, and the chain of al-Tabarani in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir are all hasan (good).
