Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) recited: "Say: I do not ask of you for it." That is, for the signs and guidance that I have brought to you, (I ask) only (that) you love Allah Almighty, and that you strive to attain nearness to His court through obedience to Allah Almighty.
Ahmad and al-Tabarani recorded it. Among Ahmad's narrators is Qaza'ah bin Suwayd, whom Yahya bin Ma'in and others declared thiqah (trustworthy), and there is weakness in him; the rest of its narrators are thiqat (trustworthy).

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: When this verse was revealed: "Say: I do not ask of you any reward for it, except love (for me) in kinship," the people said: "O Messenger of Allah! Who are these relatives of yours, love for whom is obligatory upon us?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Ali, Fatimah, and their two sons (i.e. Sayyiduna Imam Hasan and Sayyiduna Imam Husayn)."
Al-Tabarani recorded it through the narration of Harb bin al-Hasan al-Tahhan from Husayn al-Ashqar from Qays bin al-Rabi'; all of them have been declared trustworthy, and a group declared them da'if (weak); the rest of its narrators are thiqat (trustworthy).

Hadith Takhrij«أخرجه الطبراني فى المعجم الكبير (12259) ، أخرجه المعجم الكبير للطبراني برقم: 2641، 12259»
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: The Ansar said among themselves: "If we gather wealth for the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), (that would be fitting, so that) when he stretches out his hand, nothing will stand between him and the wealth." They came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: "O Messenger of Allah! We intend to gather our wealth for you." Then Allah Almighty revealed this verse: "Say: I do not ask of you any reward for it, except love (for me) in kinship." They went out in different groups. One of them said: "Have you considered what the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said?" Another said: "He said this only so that we fight on behalf of his family and help them." Then Allah Almighty revealed this verse: "Or do they say that he has invented a lie about Allah Almighty?" The verse continues up to: "And He is the One who accepts repentance from His servants." Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) offered them repentance. The verse continues up to: "And He answers (the supplications of) those who believe and do righteous deeds, and gives them more out of His bounty."
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir and al-Mu'jam al-Awsat, and after "out of His bounty" he added these words: "These are the ones who said this: If you repent to Allah Almighty and seek His forgiveness." The rest of the narration is as before. Its chain contains Uthman bin Umayr Abu al-Yaqzan, who is da'if (weak).
