عَنْ عُرْوَةَ فِي تَسْمِيَةِ مَنِ اسْتُشْهِدَ يَوْمَ بِئْرِ مَعُونَةَ مِنْ أَصْحَابِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : أَوْسُ بْنُ مُعَاذٍ الْأَنْصَارِيُّ ، وَالْحَكَمُ بْنُ كَيْسَانَ الْمَخْزُومِيُّ ، وَالْحَارِثُ بْنُ الصِّمَّةِ ، وَسَهْلُ بْنُ عَامِرِ بْنِ سَعْدِ بْنُ عَمْرِو بْنِ ثَقَبٍ الْأَنْصَارِيُّ ، وَمِنْ قُرَيْشٍ ثُمَّ مِنْ بَنِي تَيْمِ بْنِ مُرَّةَ : عَامِرُ بْنُ فُهَيْرَةَ .
وَفِي إِسْنَادِهِ ابْنُ لَهِيعَةَ ، وَحَدِيثُهُ حَسَنٌ إِذَا تُوبِعَ ، وَفِيهِ ضَعْفٌ .

Urwah has listed the names of the Companions who drank the cup of martyrdom on the day of "Bi'r Ma'unah" (and they are): Sayyiduna Aws bin Mu'adh al-Ansari (may Allah be pleased with him), Sayyiduna al-Hakam bin Kaysan al-Makhzumi (may Allah be pleased with him), Sayyiduna al-Harith bin al-Simmah (may Allah be pleased with him), Sayyiduna Sahl bin Amir bin Sa'd bin Amr bin Thaqab al-Ansari (may Allah be pleased with him), and, from the Quraysh clan of Banu Taym bin Murrah, Sayyiduna Amir bin Fuhayrah (may Allah be pleased with him). The chain of this narration contains Ibn Lahi'ah, whose narration is hasan (good) when he is corroborated, and there is weakness in this narrator.
وَعَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ فِي تَسْمِيَةِ مَنِ اسْتُشْهِدَ مِنَ الْمُسْلِمِينَ يَوْمَ بِئْرِ مَعُونَةَ : الْحَارِثُ بْنُ الصِّمَّةِ .
وَرِجَالُهُ رِجَالُ الصَّحِيحِ .

Ibn Shihab al-Zuhri, among the names of the Muslims who drank the cup of martyrdom on the day of "Bi'r Ma'unah", mentioned Sayyiduna al-Harith bin al-Simmah (may Allah be pleased with him). The narrators of this narration are the narrators of the Sahih.
وَعَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ إِسْحَاقَ فِي تَسْمِيَةِ مَنِ اسْتُشْهِدَ مِنْ أَصْحَابِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - يَوْمَ بِئْرِ مَعُونَةَ : نَافِعُ بْنُ يَزِيدَ بْنِ وَرْقَاءَ الْخُزَاعِيُّ .
Muhammad bin Ishaq, among the names of the Companions who drank the cup of martyrdom on the day of "Bi'r Ma'unah", mentioned Sayyiduna Nafi' bin Yazid bin Warqa' al-Khuza'i (may Allah be pleased with him).
وَعَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ مَسْعُودٍ قَالَ : إِيَّاكُمْ وَالشَّهَادَاتِ ، فَإِنْ كُنْتُمْ لَا بُدَّ فَاعِلِينَ ، فَاشْهَدُوا لِسَرِيَّةٍ بَعَثَهُمْ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - فَأُصِيبُوا ، فَنَزَلَ فِيهِمُ الْقُرْآنُ : أَنْ أَبْلِغُوا عَنَّا قَوْمَنَا : أَنْ قَدْ لَقِينَا رَبَّنَا ، فَرَضِيَ عَنَّا وَأَرْضَانَا .
رَوَاهُ الطَّبَرَانِيُّ ، وَفِيهِ عَطَاءُ بْنُ السَّائِبِ ، وَقَدِ اخْتَلَطَ .

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) says: Beware of bearing witness (that someone is a martyr)! If you must do so, then bear witness in favour of that expedition whose members the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) had sent out and who were then granted martyrdom. The Qur'an was revealed concerning them: "(They said:) Convey this message from us to our people: that we have come into the presence of our Lord; He is pleased with us, and He has made us pleased."
