Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "Indeed, the sun rises between the two horns of Shaytan, and it does not rise the height of a reed but a gate of Hell is opened. And when it is midday, the gates of Hell are opened for it." The narrator said: Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) used to forbid praying at these two times: when the sun is rising, until it has risen high, and at midday.
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir, and its chain is hasan (good).
Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade praying at three times: at the time the sun rises, until it has risen; at midday; and at the time the sun sets.
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat; its chain contains a narrator, Ibn Lahi'ah, about whom there is criticism.
