Sayyiduna Mu'adh bin Rifa'ah al-Ansari (may Allah be pleased with him) reports this statement of his father: My brother Khallad and I set out for Badr with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), riding our weak camel. When we reached the place called al-Barid, beyond al-Rawha', our camel knelt down. I said: "O Allah, grant us this favour: if we reach near Madinah, we will sacrifice it." We were still in this state when the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) passed by us. He asked: "What is the matter with you two?" We submitted: "Our camel has knelt down (and is no longer fit to travel)." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) dismounted and performed ablution. Then he put some of his saliva into his ablution water and instructed us to open the camel's mouth for him. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) poured the remaining water of his ablution into the camel's mouth, then he poured it on its head, then on its neck, then on the place below the neck, then on its hump, then on its back, then on its tail. Then he supplicated: "O Allah, provide Rafi' and Khallad with a mount." Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) went on. We got up and set off, and as we travelled we caught up with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) towards mid-morning, and our camel was ahead of all the camels. When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) saw us, he laughed. We kept going until we came to Badr, and when we were near Badr, our camel knelt down again. We said: "Al-hamdu lillah (All praise is for Allah)." Then we slaughtered it and gave its meat in charity.
Al-Bazzar recorded it as the complete narration, and al-Tabarani recorded part of it. Its chain contains a narrator, Abd al-Aziz bin Imran, who is matruk (abandoned).
