Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) did not engage the enemy in the early part of the day, he would delay the battle until the winds began to blow and the times of the prayers came. He used to say: "O Allah, with Your help I attack and with Your help I contend, and nothing can happen except with the help of Allah Almighty, the Most High, the Most Great."
Imam al-Tabarani recorded this narration in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir and al-Mu'jam al-Awsat. Its chain contains a narrator, Uthman bin Sa'd al-Muktib, whom Abu Nu'aym and Abu Hatim declared thiqah (trustworthy), while Imam al-Nasa'i (may Allah have mercy on him) and others declared him da'if (weak). The remaining narrators of this narration are thiqat (trustworthy).
