Sulayman bin Musa narrates: Sayyiduna Malik bin Abdullah al-Khath'ami (may Allah be pleased with him) was passing by (perhaps some words have dropped from the Arabic text here; in the printed edition the words are:) while he was the commander of the people on the summer campaign (al-Sa'ifah) in the land of the Romans, leading his animal. He said to him: Ride, for I see that your animal is strong-backed (i.e., fit for riding). He replied: I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "No servant's feet become dusty in the path of Allah but Allah Almighty makes Hell forbidden to them." The narrator says: Malik dismounted, and the other people also dismounted and began walking; no day was seen with more people walking on foot than that day.
Abu Ya'la recorded it, and its narrators are thiqat (trustworthy).
