Imran bin Hittan narrates: The Mother of the Believers, Sayyidah Aishah al-Siddiqah (may Allah be pleased with her), said to me: "Those people who come to you from other towns, who have no lineage among you and no kinship, what do you call them?" I said: "We call them 'uluj (foreign rustics) and suqat (riffraff)." Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) said: "In the blessed time of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), we used to call such people Muhajirun (emigrants)."
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Saghir and al-Mu'jam al-Awsat from his teacher Ahmad bin Musa al-Shami, and I do not know him.
