Majma al-Zawaid — Hadith 8545

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Wearing a cloak is the dress of the Arabs, and iltifa' (wrapping oneself fully, in the manner of ishtimal) is the dress of faith." The narrator says: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to practise iltifa' (that is, wear his cloak in the manner of ishtimal).
Al-Tabarani recorded it. Its chain contains Sa'id bin Sinan al-Shami, who is extremely da'if (weak); his being declared trustworthy has been reported from some, but this is not authentically established (or is not correct).
