Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The ruler of Rome sent some gifts to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). Among the gifts he sent was a jar of zanjabil (ginger), and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) gave every person a piece of it to eat, and he gave me a piece to eat as well.
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat. Its chain contains Amr bin Hakkam, who has been accused regarding this hadith, and he is da'if (weak).
