Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates this saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): "The worst food is the food of the walimah, to which the well-off are invited and the poor are left out."
Al-Bazzar recorded it, and al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat and al-Mu'jam al-Kabir, and his wording is: Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrated this saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): "Evil is the food of the walimah, to which those who are full are invited and from which the hungry are kept away." Its chain contains a narrator, Sa'id bin Suwayd al-Mighwali, and I have not found anyone who has written his biography. Its chain also contains a narrator, Imran al-Qattan, whom Ahmad and a group of scholars declared thiqah (trustworthy), while al-Nasa'i (may Allah have mercy on him) and others declared him da'if (weak).
